On the flight back to the United States on my first trip to Iceland I got a pretty good view of the coastline of Greenland from the air, and it was anything but green. In fact, as more than a few travelers have noted, it is Greenland that is icy and Iceland that is green.
What I saw from the airplane was a vast wilderness of snow covered mountains, multiple fjords, glaciers and an icy sea with thousands of icebergs. Based on the presumed flight path and what I saw, it appeared to be the coastline of the southeastern tip of Greenland. It was a fascinating sight. What made it even better is that I had all three seats in the row all to myself!
