On the second day of our Yangshuo, China bicycling adventure, we set off for what would eventually be our ultimate destination, the Ming Dynasty-era village of Luigong on the Li River (photos of our visit to Luigong here). Along the way, we saw a very interesting cross-section of rural Chinese life, including water buffalo cooling off in a pond and fishermen using a net on a fulcrum (lift nets).
Unfortunately the Li River was shut down due to flooding or we would have been able to catch a boat ride to the other side of the river to ancient Fuli town which would have been a treat to see. Alas, we were only able to see it from across the river. Fuli is an 800-year-old village known for its paper fans.
