Part 1 – The Entrance

The words to describe the New Century Global Center in Chengdu, China are stupendous, unbelievable, and incomprehensible. It is the world’s largest building measured by floor space. Billed as a global mall and waterpark, the building also has office space and a hotel. It’s so big, it will take three parts to even begin to portray it. Upon driving up to the building, Alex said it looked to be as big as 800 cruise ships. It’s hard to fit the outside of the building into one photo unless you are some distance away. Inside, the building is even more grandiose with a grand entrance and four-story escalators, a high-tech movie theater area, an ice-skating rink, a waterpark and a stadium overlooking a beach with a stage and a huge video screen as a backdrop. (Oddly, on our visit, the video screen was playing the Victoria’s Secret 2013 Fashion Show.) The building is built in a square with a massive atrium in the middle. The Chinese have really outdone themselves with this building.
